Role: Resident Care Attendant
Term: Full-time/permanent
Location: Onsite in Fredonia, NY
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7am-3pm
Compensation: starting at $16.73 Per Hour with excellent growth potential

JOB FUNCTION:
The Resident Care Attendant provides direct care and supportive services to residents in a residential mental health setting. This position is responsible for ensuring residents receive prescribed medications, assistance with activities of daily living, access to medical and behavioral healthcare services, and support in maintaining a safe, therapeutic living environment. The RCA serves as an advocate for residents while promoting recovery, independence, and respect for individual choice.

DUTIES:

Resident Care

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, bathing, toileting, mobility, and meal support, as needed.
  • Encourage resident independence while providing appropriate supervision and assistance.
  • Monitor residents for changes in physical, emotional, and behavioral health and promptly report concerns to nursing or supervisory staff.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement consistent with recovery-oriented principles.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while building positive therapeutic relationships.

Medication Administration

  • Administer medications in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, applicable state regulations, and scope of practice.
  • Accurately document medication administration and monitor for medication effectiveness, side effects, or adverse reactions.
  • Ensure proper storage, security, inventory, and accountability of medications.
  • Communicate medication concerns promptly to nursing staff and healthcare providers.

Health & Wellness Coordination

  • Schedule, coordinate, and monitor residents' medical, dental, psychiatric, therapy, and specialty appointments.
  • Arrange transportation or coordinate transportation services for appointments as appropriate.
  • Assist residents in preparing for appointments and communicate follow-up recommendations to the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Maintain accurate appointment calendars and medical documentation.

Safety & Supervision

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive living environment.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, behavioral crises, accidents, and incidents in accordance with agency procedures.

Documentation

  • Complete accurate, timely, and objective documentation regarding resident care, medication administration, observations, appointments, and significant events.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Support agency initiatives that foster resident-centered care, teamwork, and continuous quality improvement.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform housekeeping or environmental duties necessary to maintain resident safety and comfort.
  • Participate in required training, competency evaluations, and continuing education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required medication administration certification, if applicable.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks, health screenings, and pre-employment requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills, including electronic documentation and scheduling.
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and assist residents consistent with job requirements (up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation).
