Role: Building Maintenance Technician
Term: Part-time
Location: Onsite in Olean, NY
Travel: Candidates must have clean, valid license for company vehicle use.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday Flex
Compensation: Commensurate with Experience ($18-25/hr)

Southern Tier Environments for Living (STEL) is seeking an experienced, reliable, and highly motivated Building Maintenance Technician to join our team.

We are looking for a skilled individual with a strong background in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building repairs. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded maintenance professional who can independently diagnose problems, determine appropriate solutions, and complete repairs efficiently and correctly.

This position involves maintaining multiple residential properties and facilities while ensuring safe, functional, and comfortable living environments for the individuals we serve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plumbing: Diagnose and repair leaks, faucets, toilets, drains, fixtures, and other common plumbing issues.

  • Electrical: Troubleshoot and perform routine electrical repairs, including switches, outlets, lighting fixtures, and other components, within applicable licensing and code requirements.

  • Carpentry: Perform framing, trim work, door and window repairs, cabinetry installation, and general carpentry projects.

  • Drywall & Painting: Complete drywall repairs, patching, finishing, and interior and exterior painting.

  • Flooring: Install and repair various flooring materials, including vinyl plank, laminate, and other surfaces.

  • General Building Maintenance: Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve maintenance issues throughout residential and commercial properties.

  • Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and address potential issues before they become major repairs.

  • Property Improvements: Assist with apartment renovations, turnovers, and facility improvement projects.

  • Seasonal Maintenance: Assist with snow and ice removal, grounds maintenance, and other seasonal responsibilities.

  • Work Orders: Prioritize and complete maintenance requests promptly and professionally.

  • Safety: Maintain a safe work environment and follow applicable building codes and safety procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated professional experience in building maintenance, construction, or multiple skilled trades.

  • Strong working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repair procedures.

  • Proven ability to diagnose maintenance problems and perform repairs independently.

  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple work orders.

  • Dependable, self-motivated, and capable of working with minimal supervision.

  • Good communication skills and a professional attitude when interacting with residents and staff.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between agency properties.

  • Ability to perform the essential physical duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of professional maintenance or skilled-trades experience.

  • Experience maintaining multifamily housing, residential facilities, or commercial properties.

  • Knowledge of heating systems, basic HVAC troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.

  • Experience completing renovations and coordinating with outside contractors.
